Full Time Employment Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Health & Wellness Consultant, the Health & Wellness Consultant carries out case management activities for medical leaves, workplace injuries, short-term and long-term illness, return to work and medical accommodations. The incumbent provides guidance, consultation and support to management and employees. The incumbent assists with health and wellness activities.


Manage a case load of employees who are either off work due to health concerns, injury or on a medical accommodation in the workplace.

 Communicate with management and employees on medical leave of absence and disability benefit entitlements.

 Consult, guide and assist management and employees with job accommodation process and requirements. Determine work suitability for timely return to work. This includes assisting in the selection of adaptive equipment, shift/schedule modification, duty modification or alternate job placement.

 Monitor status of leaves and accommodations to determine if additional medical documentation is required. Process letters to employees and medical practitioners, ensuring Physical Demands Analysis/Job Descriptions are attached to assist in understanding the job requirements.

 Facilitate discussions with management to define appropriate modified duties, based on medical restrictions.

 Maintain communication with all stakeholders and assist in returning employees to their pre-accident position, where possible.

 Monitor report and follow up on leaves and accommodations.

 Advise HR team of leaves to ensure benefit information is provided to the employee.

 Complete timely notification/documentation to HRIS/Payroll regarding leaves.

 Provide employee, management and Human Resources department consultation, resources and education.

 Consult and communicate with healthcare professionals and consultants within the medical community.

 Conduct and participate in assessment of employee wellness needs and areas of interest through information gathering.

 Assist with various wellness programs, educational tools and annual events.

 Performs other duties as assigned.

Primary Qualifications:

A diploma or degree in one the following disciplines: Rehabilitative Case Management, Occupational Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Occupational Health and Safety or Ergonomics or equivalent combination of related education, certification and experience.

 A minimum of one (1) year experience in disability case management.

 Experience with interpreting medical documentation and application for return to work planning.

 Working knowledge of current case law regarding duty to accommodation, provision of medication information, Human Rights and protection of privacy.

 Breadth of knowledge of organizational occupations to facilitate appropriate modified duty placement beyond employee’s own occupation.

 Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).

 Have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License.

 Must demonstrate ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with a broad range of people; and actively collaborate with others to produce desired results in a supportive environment.

 Must be able to facilitate meetings and effectively handle sensitive discussions with tact and diplomacy.

 Thorough knowledge of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries collective agreements, employee benefits, recruitment and policies & procedures.

Secondary Qualifications:

Current certification in Disability Management (such as Certified Disability Management Professional – CDMP, Certified Return to Work Coordinator –CRTWC, Registered Rehabilitation Professional – RRP, or Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Councillor - CCRC).

 Knowledge of available community and business resources in health, safety and wellness.

 Bilingual (French/English) language skills.

Salary: $30.59 - $40.56

Bargaining Unit: Exempt
